Every year on November 1 and 2, Mexico fills with cempasúchil marigolds, papel picado, catrinas, and lit candles. It’s a celebration so deeply ours that UNESCO recognized it as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008, and today it’s celebrated on a grand scale, with parades and festivals that draw thousands of people.

The question for any organizer is the same: how do you create a finale that leaves everyone in awe without putting the audience at risk? That’s where a Day of the Dead drone show comes in.

Day of the Dead is now a mass event

The first official Day of the Dead parade in Mexico City took place in 2016, inspired by the scene that Spectre, the James Bond film, shot in the Historic Center. Since then, cities, hotels, and brands across the country have organized their own celebrations. More people in the streets means more excitement, but also more responsibility.

The problem with traditional fireworks

According to the Technical Secretariat of Mexico’s National Council for Accident Prevention (STCONAPRA), part of the Ministry of Health, 73% of burns treated between November and January are related to fireworks, and most injuries affect the hands.

Add to that the smoke, the noise that stresses pets and sensitive people, and the debris that falls on the audience. At a parade full of families and children in costume, is it worth taking that risk when there’s another option that’s just as spectacular?

Why is a drone show the safe alternative?

A drone show uses LED-lit aircraft that fly in coordination to draw shapes in the sky. There are no explosions and no combustion, and that changes everything.

No fire, no smoke, and far less noise

Without gunpowder, the risk of burns and burning debris disappears. No smoke lingers over the event, and the sound is much quieter than that of rockets.

A flight planned from start to finish

At Aionexp, every show includes permits, insurance, logistics, and a safety plan, with certified pilots and technical redundancy. Before the event, you receive a 3D preview so you know exactly what your audience will see.

A story told in the sky

Imagine a catrina formed by hundreds of lights, animated cempasúchil petals falling, or the path of light that guides souls back home. With fireworks, that’s impossible; with drones, it’s a matter of design.

What events is a Day of the Dead drone show right for?
